Ruth Jenkins-Oliver grew up in McIntosh county, Ga listening to family history and legends passed down from generation to generation. Her book, Living in Fear, is a true account based on those stories.

Who did you write this book for?
::: I wrote the book for anyone who enjoy reading historical fiction.
How did you feel when you saw your book on the shelf for the first time?
::: I was happy to see my work in print because the Geechee language is a part of African American history.
What is your process for creating a novel? Do you plot out the story or do the characters speak to you?
::: My process for creating the stories in Living in Fear is based on passed-down family lore.
Do you feel writing is for those trained to write or for anyone who has a story to tell?
::: In my opinion, anyone who has a story to tell can write a book, but have the manuscript edited, critique or proofread before it is published.
What are you doing next?
::: I’m writing a book based on one of the characters in Living in Fear.
